Deep in the woods, in a village built and inhabited by seven Dwarves, a beautiful girl is woken from the dead not by a kiss, but by a necromancer’s spell.
Now, Eira Velsign has the power to speak with ghosts and banish evil spirits, but it comes at a cost. She has forgotten everything about her life before, including her adopted Dwarven family and the cause of her death. All the Dwarves can tell her is that she died very suddenly, with no warning and no sign of illness or injury. Determined to make the most of her new life, she becomes the necromancer’s apprentice, charged with protecting his nephew from malevolent ghosts as he prepares to travel to the palace to win the hand of the princess.
But Eira soon learns that spirits and the unrestful dead are not the only threats she will face in this new life. After being caught up in the inheritance plot of a cunning and ruthless huntsman, she finds herself assisting with the investigation of a mysterious device, the origins of which could have serious repercussions not only for her new charge’s family, but for the kingdom of Myrsinia as a whole.

She had none, though the word sounded vaguely familiar. “You raise the dead, I guess?”
“Among other things. I have the power to commune with, summon, and banish spirits. And now, to a lesser extent, so do you.”

There are tons of other fantasy novels, so what makes Wight special?
Characters:
I try to breathe a lot of life not only into my protagonists, but also my minor characters. I want them to make up the background of the story rather than fading into it.
Romance is slow-burn, series-long and very low-spice. The bigger focus is the friendship/partnership between characters, and sometimes romance sparks naturally from there.
World-Building:
No info-dumping here. You learn about the characters and the world in a way that feels natural. The magic and political systems are simple and clean.
Descriptions are vivid, but not dense. I'll tell you how I see it, but I won't begrudge you a different vision!
